The Cello

Valeria Brunelli studied the Cello at the Fiesole Music School, graduating in 2003 under the guidance of Francesco Dillon.

Later, she continued her studies with Andrea Nannoni in Conservatory Luigi Cherubini in Firenze, obtaining her master degree in modern cello, and later continued with Tilmann Wick in Hochschule fur Musik in Hannover. In addition she attended several master class with Enrico Bronzi, Vittorio Ceccanti and Marianne Chen.

She also specialized in the Baroque Cello with Bettina Hoffmann, in Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, with Mauro Valli at the Conservatory of Music B. Maderna in Cesena (obtaining the master degree in baroque cello in 2018), and Marco Testori in Scuola Civica in Milano.

She has dedicated herself to an intense chamber music activity, mainly in the string quartet, studying at important Italian and European institutions, such as Fiesole School of Music, Accademia Chigiana in Siena, Royal Academy of Music, ECMA (European Chamber Music Academy) and Conservatory of Gent, where from 2014 to 2017 she attended a post graduate studies in classical-romantic repertoire on original instruments with Alessandro Moccia.

From 2013 to 2018 she was the cellist with the Delfico Quartet, string quartet with original instruments, with which she performed for many important festivals such as Gaudete! Festival, Concerti di San Torpete, Ravenna Festival, Rassegna da Camera of Solisti Aquilani, Concerti del Quirinale, Festival d’Ambronay, Festival de Saintes –Abbaye aux Dames, Fondazione Pietà dei Turchini, Rassegna da Camera dei Solisti Aquilani, Rassegna da Camera di Accademia Bizantina, Festival Urbino Musica Antica, Festival Etruria Mater, Festival del Quartetto della Pieve di Gropina, Lago Maggiore Musica, and many others.

She recorded for Brilliant Classics label “Pietro Nardini- Complete Strings Quartets” and “Vincenzo Manfredini – Complete String Quartets” and for Passacaille label “Paris 1804”, a project of French romantic music for horn and strings.

In 2005 she attended the Attergau Orchester Institut, youth orchestra under the patronage of Wiener Philarmoniker.

As a modern cellist she collaborated with the Orchestra Pro Musica in Pistoia, Orchestra Filarmonica in Torino, Chamber Orchestra “I Nostri Tempi” in Firenze and PMCE – Parco della Musica Contemporanea Ensemble in Roma.

In 2010 she participated to the Orchestra Giovanile of Academia Montis Regalis; since then, she established collaborations with historically informed ensembles Academia Montis Regalis, Modo Antiquo, Auser Musici, Dolce Concento, Concerto de Cavalieri, Concerto Romano, Giardino di Delizie. With these groups she performs regularly in many important festivals such as: The Innsbrucker Festwochen den Alten Musik, Festival MITO in Torino, Festival Monteverdi in Cremona, Festival Toscano di Musica Antica, Festival de Musica Antigua dels Pirineus, Early Music Festival Timisoara, Haendel Festspiele Halle, Féstival International d’opéra baroque de Beaune, O flos Colende Firenze, Festival delle Nazioni, Valletta Baroque Festival.. With the same ensemble she took part in recording productions for Brilliant Classic, Naive, Glossa, Deutche Harmonia Mundi labels.

Since 2006, she is teacher for a preaccademic cello course at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole and from 2010 in CSMA- Centro Studi Musica ed Arte in Firenze.
